Where to Stay When Visiting Dubai Marina

There are a number of hotels in the Dubai Marina, most if not all are 5-star and high-priced. Such hotels are easy to find and easy to book through Internet searches.

The listing linked here was prepared as a reference for visitors planning to take part in the MAG 218 Community event scheduled for 27 January 2006. The hotels recommended are either within or in reasonable proximity to the Dubai Marina. They were selected on the bases of proximity and price value. The range for starting rates are from Dhs 660 - Dhs 1754. Even those which fall at the higher end of this rather high range of prices represent somewhat lower rates than are common for the properties listed. Six hotels are referenced with the appropriate links. They include,

The Walk @ Jumeirah Beach Residences

In the JBR development right beside the Dubai Marina a new shopping center is planned, perhaps to rival the Marina Walk in name but far out-do it in scope.

The Walk @ Jumeirah Beach Residence is going to be one of the most vibrant shopping boulevards to be created in Dubai and this region and will be 1.7 kilometres long.

The Walk has a strong representation of new concepts and brands in a vast range of goods and services including Food & Beverage, Home Furnishing, Décor and Art Galleries, Women, Men & Children Apparel; Fashion & Accessories, Health & Cosmetics, Jewellery, Culture, Leisure & Sports and Supermarkets and other neighbourhood commodity stores and services.

The Walk @ JBR would consist of two levels and will host over 400 outlets including 45 restaurants, coffee shops bakeries and new lifestyle light Food & Beverage Concepts located directly on the beachfront and all over the community.

Ibn Battuta Mall

The Egypt Court (15-Dec-2005)

This is the nearest mega-mall to Dubai Marina--not at the Marina itself but (across Sheikh Zayed Road) within sight of some of the towers. It is described as 6 malls in one, each having a different theme--China, India, Persia, Egypt, Tunisia, Andalusia. It is named after a 14th century Arab explorer who reportedly travelled across these lands. The mall plays on the six themes beautifully. As far as being a big mall goes, it has everything. Uniquely, it has the UAE's only IMAX cinema.

Medical Facilities

Jebel Ali Hospital (04-884-5666)

Providing welcome relief to the neighbouring communities of Emirates Hills, Dubai Marina and The Gardens, amongst others, Jebel Ali Hospital is well prepared to handle routine emergencies as well as complex medical, surgical and trauma cases. AME Info (02 Jan 06)

Opened Oct. 2005 with 20 beds, the hospital provides medical and dental services in a "boutique" style setting. It is open 24-hours, 7 days per week.

Schools

Proposed

Six school projects are to take place within all the residential projects at Emaar. Five school projects have been tendered and their operators have been chosen, one school project will be tendered soon. The schools will be located in Dubai Marina, Greens, Springs, Meadows, Emirates Hills and Arabian Ranches.

Skyscrapercity.com has it all--separate forums on each building where fans of architecture, buyers of units, people with technical backgrounds and the curious discuss anything ranging from technical detail to mindless chit-chat. Info, rumors and pictures of upcoming towers are plentiful. Visit the Dubai Marina Forum. This site is very active.

Dubai Property Forum is not very active but it includes discussions on Dubai Marina, and what it does have tends to be more informative and contemplative than some of the endless chit-chat found at Skyscrapercity. Visit the Dubai Marina discussion forum.
